Most wellness line items in a renewal conversation are a commodity discussion - which vendor, which discount, which bundle. Inclusive, activity-based wellness gives you a differentiation angle instead of a pricing one.
The gap in most incumbent offerings
Gym-reimbursement and points-based wellness vendors (Wellhub/Gympass, Virgin Pulse, Wellable, Personify Health, and similar) are built around the employees who were already active. That leaves a real gap for clients trying to show their whole workforce a benefit, not just the subset who already had a gym habit.
Two claims that aren't heavily contested yet
In client conversations, two positioning angles hold up well because competitors aren't making them loudly:
- "Pays for real activity, not just gym access." Walking, cycling, and swimming earn tokens today, with more activity types on the way - not just check-ins at a partner gym.
- "Privacy-first by design." Employers only ever see aggregated tokens and reimbursable value, never individual activity types or health data. For risk-averse clients, that's frequently the deciding factor.
Where this fits in a renewal or RFP
Bring it in as an addition to an existing benefits package rather than a replacement for anything currently working - it's an easier "yes" for a client who isn't looking to rip out an incumbent vendor mid-contract, and it gives you a genuine point of differentiation against a competing broker's proposal.
